  i just got another mental prodding.

  i overheard my mum and dad talking in the hall this morning (its their assembly weekend) and i couldnt believe what i heard.

  they were talking rather intensly about how you would never get girls in the world like you do in the truth and started bleating on about how loose those worldly people are.

  Talesin, thanks for your kind words. I do still live at home (moving out in a few months though). My mum and dad have mellowed a lot with me though. I think they do this because if the JW crap comes up I reason with too much logic for them so they feel REALLY uncomfortable if it ever comes up (my mum feels under ‘tremendous pressure’ and ‘very tired’ when we just discuss it – her words not mine) because they can’t answer my questions or tell me what I’m saying is wrong so it’s just left now. They’ll never change but that’s up to them.

  i have found that once i got 'an open mind', it was really easy to keep it! i focus on hangin out with other open-minded people.

  Can ‘fanatical religious people’ really be open-minded?

  this is the main question really for any religious org.

  according to them do it gods way and close your mind to your own logic and reason and that of the worlds (given to us by the very god they believe in).

  or be an independent thinker and reason stuff out according to the watchtower satan influences independent thinkers and they warn against it as this is the devils way of doing it.

  I think you mist the point of my question. Sometimes you can get across a point better when not being word perfect.

  The fact is everyone who posts here was religiously fanatical but somehow eventually developed an open mind. The fact that we got from one to the other is amazing.

They were talking rather intensly about how you would never get girls in the world like you do in the truth and started bleating on about how loose those ‘worldly people’ are. This just smacked me in the face and goes to show how little they have a grip on reality – shoving everyone who isn’t a JW into that disposable garbage bin.

  It got me thinking these people are clearly programmed to suit their mind-set or proposed purpose. Soldiers in the army are ‘programmed’ to a certain extent so they can stay focused and get a good job done - obviously not in the same way as JWs.

  I think it basically comes down to ‘viewpoint’. A lot of things in life can be justified as being acceptable, even if, morally they are not– if they are viewed from a certain mind-set. The hardest thing off all is having an open mind and keeping it. I’m making friends now out of the org with people who are open minded and non-judgemental (this is not a dig at the WTS btw), for me this is a much better way to live - with an open mind, not having all the answers and being ready to be changed by real experiences. I won’t choose to put my brain in a box but it does get kinda tiring. It reminds me of a Radiohead lyric.

  I'd say most of the music is crap nowadays! apart from a minority of bands but I think that's the way it's always been (more so now, though). The industry knows what brings in the £ and probably never fail but people also know when they see a good genuine band, so some good bands will always make it.

  Thankyou so much for your story monkey. I t must have taken so much out of you writing that - but you did it and have helped so many people. I read your story yesterday and I couldn't get it out of my head. I'm very open minded but not always with true understanding. It really has changed me as a person deeply and opened my eyes in a big way. I'm really sorry for how you were treated but I feel things will just get better and better for you from here.

  opinions whats the best way to get out the door and not lose your fam DA or

  pros and cons............. dissasociation......... disfellowshiping....... or just fadeing away.

  i got family that i dont wanna lose but im not sure the best way to leave and the consequences.

  raised in the "truth" so all my friends are jw with a few exceptions.

  I just like to say I don’t think there’s an easy way out. If you want to truly move on in life you not only have to be honest with yourself but with other people to - especially family.

  I don’t know your situation but my mums been a hardcore JW for as long as I’ve known her. I’d say the fade is the best option – try and break it to them gently bit by bit as you learn more information that’s will open your eyes. Give them a subtle point to chew over – believe me they will chew it over – JWs are so easily influenced because of the GB, not only by them but by everyone else because of the way they process there group. Ease them in and then eventually tell them how you feel, you will feel tons better in yourself. It won’t be easy though and it will get very frustrating, just try and bite your lip at times – personally I lost it on a couple of occasions but got things back after using my brain, looking at it from as different perspective and apologising. They might be JW’s but they’re still your family and are the victims of very subtle mind control.

  Now I’ve done all the above my mum is starting to respect me and who I am because I’m a much better person for it and I’ve made decisions and changed for the better and she can see that I’m being honest with myself and not going crazy as the WTS try and make out will happen but am sorting out my life. Btw, my dad’s a JW – that is a very self-righteous hypocrite type. He started being his usual childish, mournful self when she came home today– tired. She takes so much crap from him - I said through the door ‘why don’t you just tell him to piss-off’ and she did and laughed (pretty funny really for a hardcore JW) she’s changing but she doesn’t know it.

  i'm a celebrity get me out a here...(yeah, get em outta here fer crying).. oprah winfrey/ricki lake...omgaawd, oprah thinks she's "a god" or something and so does her audience.. neighbors/eastenders/corra st/ all of em come to think of it.. what grates your teeth?

  I never watch the TV for more than 10mins - then I'm just plain bored. I don't think there's nothing I hate more than sitting in a friends house watching TV. I did watch it this weekend though because of Glastonbury this weekend (music festival in the UK). I loved the Doves and Radiohead - although I think the guys a genius along with the rest of the band - hmm, going a tad crazy I'd say by most peoples standards but seems happy enough when he isn't singing!
